Part Three
I wanted to keep this a monochrome painting and I'm happy with this result. I didn't add a lot from the previous painting.
Liquid white and liquid black (black that I mixed from Ultramarine Blue, Sap Green, and Crimson, blended with Matte Medium and water) were splattered on with various palette knives.
See The beginning of this painting here, and the mid-stage here.

Fascinator is a terrific title here—the black and white splatters create a delicacy and crispness in contrast to the broader monochromatic background; they fascinate. Love the depth and balance.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dotty. A Fascinator is also a small, frilly hat or headband, usually made with lace and/or feathers. Lots of implied meaning in the name.
DeleteI was totally thinking of Kate and Will's wedding and all the elegant fascinators—that's what I think you have captured so magnificently!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much... now I will have to look them up.
DeleteOoooh! They are uber cool. Maybe I will do a series of them as well.
DeleteYour painting is SO evocative of that haute couture style of haberdashery, don't you think? You painted first, and saw the fascinator in your painting after the fact, yes?
DeleteYes, that is correct.
DeleteSo very interesting - glad I saw it on the 30/30 page
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and your comment. Glad you're here.
DeleteI would so love to see the hat inspired by your painting! I never could pull of a hat, but I love seeing them in old movies, and of course in the royal family. I love this, at each stage. Love how you got the drips in each direction, makes me think of frilly, dainty feathers dancing in the breeze!
ReplyDeleteThank you. All of my paintings this month have been intuitive. No reference fascinator to be found. I do love them when I see them. They are not my personal style but I do find them beautiful.
