Ruby
"Ruby" has a tail that is a little bit out of control (and those toes!).
I enjoyed this big swirl and working on getting the light just right on all the curves of the lizard.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Today is my husband's birthday and he is definitely the Chocolate King. Happy Birthday, Melenman.

This dragon has her eye on something she really wants and there is no doubt she will get it with that laser-focused gaze.

Painting Ten - Diamondback
Part Two
Nearing the end of the challenge so I'm trying to finish up as many paintings as possible. This painting is part of the Serpent series.
The previous version of this was very light and I wanted to really add some drama with lots of maroon and a few touches of gold and darker purple.
Not a lot of changes here, just a few small touch ups with black paint marker and a bit of splashed paint for interest.
Because the difference is so dramatic, I thought I'd show Part One of this painting.
See the beginning of this painting here.
The more I watched the video and looked at the beginning stages of this painting, the more I liked it in the earlier stages. I still love the drama of it with maroon but the lightness of this earlier version is also lovely. I decided to do another painting with a similar beginning stage and keep it in the lighter tones. Look for that soon.

Where Sea Meets Sky
Where Sea Meets Sky
Summer beach time brings soothing, sometimes exciting, magical moments. Especially when a few (non-threatening) clouds appear to catch that Golden Hour of sun as it kisses the horizon.

9" x 12" oil on canvas board.

30-in-30, Day Seven, Cage Free Series 014
Brilliant Indigo
Cage Free Series 014
Vivid Indigo Bunting perches in a field with fiery Autumn colors.
It finally rained last night so the temperature dropped and it won't feel like we're on fire for a few days. Yesterday I didn't get to cook a thing so I guess I'll be extra busy with that today. A cooler day is better for cooking, for sure.
"Brilliant Indigo"
6" x 6" oil on gessobord, unframed.
This painting is available through Daily Paintworks Auction.

Cage Free -- 30-in-30 Day Six
Dashing
Cage Free Series 013
To me, this guy looks dashing in his blue finery and black beard and head feather. What a lovely creature.
It's Saturday and I have slept in (normally I'm up at 4 for work, so 7 is sleeping quite late for me). Now it's time to crack in to the day -- a walk and quick trip to the gym, appointments for my daughter, some cooking for the week (I cook enough for the week, rather than the day and live off leftovers), and some painting for the week.
I hope your day is productive.

30-in-30 Day Five, Cage Free 012
"Evening Lady"
Cage Free Series 012
This painting is meant as a companion to the one here. The Evening Grosbeak spends its time in forests and I do not (sadly!) so we have probably never met but I think they are quite a lovely couple. I love when I see birds in my yard but I'm not great at knowing what they are. Maybe after researching so many birds for paintings, I'll actually be able to identify them when I see them.
I'm glad it's finally Friday. Even with Labor Day this short week has felt very very long. I had made plans to meet friends for an outing on Saturday but have decided I better stay home and paint instead. It's going to be too hot anyway so I'll be thankful for my basement studio.

30-in-30 Day Three -- Cage Free 010
"Little Nipper"
Cage Free Series 010
Hummingbirds are amazing creatures. The glow of their feathers just takes my breath away. We have a few hummingbirds in our yard from time to time but I have never fed them. My neighbor feeds birds and that will have to be good enough for me. I seem to attract squirrels when I put out feeders.
I woke up this morning congratulating myself for being so organized. I jumped up, turned on the tea pot to start it brewing while I went in to brush my teeth. Feeling rather tired from staying up a little late, but glad for all I have accomplished this week. When I got back to the kitchen, the tea pot was quiet and nothing had brewed. My heart sank as I wondered, "Is it broken?" Then I realized, nope... I forgot to fill it last night. Ugh. The rest of the day has to go more smoothly than that, right? Let's hope.

No. 2 Sunrise Virginia Beach
No. 2 Sunrise Virginia Beach
No, you're not seeing double. I liked this sunrise so much I wanted to paint it again. A few changes in this one from the first. Both have admirable qualities and I truly do like them both.

30 in 30, Day Twenty
"Success!"
I call this one "Success" because that's what it is, in a couple of ways. First, it is the first Sunflower that I have been really happy with how it turned out. Others in the past have just been okay. But this one, I really like. Second, it is my catch-up painting, after I got behind in the 30 in 30 Challenge.

30 in 30, Day Seven
And now, for something completely different.
An abstract.
Sometimes I have a plan for my abstract and sometimes things just happen on the canvas that make me think, "Hey, I like that!" This is one of those "Hey, I like that!" kind of paintings. Abstract are not everyone's cup of tea, I totally get that. If you're not a fan, it's okay. I'll have something more mainstream tomorrow.
"Eye Of Giant Squid"
14" x 18" oil on canvas board
This painting is not currently for sale but if you love it, let me know. We might work something out.

30 in 30, Day Three
Today's snow makes me want a warm beach. Don't worry, more Poinsettia paintings will come later. But today my cold bones need a gorgeous beach sunset. Which beach this was, or who took the photo, I don't recall. If this is your photo that I lifted from FaceBook, let me know and I will be happy to credit you.
"Fire Beach"
9" x 12" oil on canvas board.
